Description |
The apartment you'll stay in is on the completely renovated ground floor of a historical monument. It is equipped with under floor-heating which can be regulated individually for each room according to your needs (i.e. cooler bedrooms). The living-room and the bedrooms have parquet flooring, the other areas are covered with tiles.
This is a non-smoker apartment.
You'll relax in an old historical monument. With 89 square meters, up to six persons can be accommodated comfortably so that you'll keep out of each other's way. The apartment has its own entrance, so you will be undisturbed and won't disturb anybody else when coming "home" late at night, or leaving early for a hike. During the summer you can use the lawn to take a sun bath or have your meals in the garden (rustic garden furniture at your disposal). Even though you are in the midst of the small town, you won't hear and see anything, as you are surrounded by 1400m2 of garden and hedges. The apartment is for non-smokers, and since there are no other smokers in the house, you won't be disturbed by smoke. Even your car will have a roof over its head due to a place in the garage which is reserved for you.

Local attractions and things to do |
Falkenstein (628m above sea-level)
Falkenstein, a picturesque town, has been recognised as a climatic health resort for more than two decades. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape rich in forests, and overlooked by the castle. It has 1,700 inhabitants and is the administrative centre for the 3,000 inhabitants of the villages in its vicinity. All important services are available.
Apart from the castle with its Hunting Museum and its yearly Summer Festival, the estate - the second largest nature and rock reserve in Bavaria - attrackts lots of visitors each year. As does the former railway embankment to Regensburg, 35 nice km travelled by bike riders in the summer and cross country skiers in the winter.
Falkenstein itself has a picturesque market-place with a historic town hall, a heated open-air pool with a beach-volleyball field, mini-golf and Kneipp cure complex. The restaurants are very good and a huge array of dishes is on offer. A vast net of hiking trails and cross-country ski runs as well as possibilities to fish, shoot and play tennis are at your disposal.
Falkenstein Castle
In the year 1074 Bishop Tuto of Regensburg built the castle, whose ownership changed from ecclesiastical to mundane hands various times during its more than 900 years of existence. In 1967 Prince Johannes von Thurn und Taxis donated the castle to the market town of Falkenstein, which undertook the renovation and restoration of the castle and converted part of it into a guest house. Apart from enjoying the panoramic view from the tower, cultural entertainment during the Festival, and gastronomic delights, we suggest a visit of the Hunting Museum.
The White Lady of Falkenstein
The farmer's wife and daily labourer Mrs. Danner always used the daylight to the full to work, so it often happened that it was quite dark when she went home to Falkenstein. She used the "Parksteig" underneath the Klausenrock, and more than once she had seen the White Lady, who normally only appeared in the castle at midnight. Mrs Danner always had a ready prayer on her lips for her, hoping that one day that poor woman would finally find eternal peace and rest. Mrs Danner obviously was not afraid of the ghost, but rather pitied her. So one day the lady told her that if she encountered the dog with the glowing eyes she should retrieve the key form its mouth because it was the key to a treasure chest. Mrs Danner prtly was eager to meet the dog, partly she was very much afraid of it. When one day she crossed the park again at a very late hour, her heart almost stopped beating. Right in front of her a huge dog had materialised, his eyes glowing brightly in the dark. In his mouth he had the key, but her fear was so great that she did not dare touch it. That is why the treasure in the castle has remained undisturbed until today. |
